Hopefully hiding behind the barricades will only be temporary, although I guess that depends on what sort of a deal LJ has cut with Facebook and Twitter. Ironically, I was using LJ more for f-locked posts, and while I'm reasonably assured that nobody would purposely crosspost comments to those, there's always the possibility of a slip of the brain and the posting finger.
I'm mightily confused as to why LJ would consciously set up an option which directly undercuts its own privacy settings. Just. Does. Not. Compute.

Yeah, this may not be an easy thing to back out of.

A decent % of my flist is people I know IRL who don't use LJ all that much, and who also are friends on Facebook. If they're on LJ, I don't mind them reading what I post on LJ, but I really don't want going out onto the wilds of Facebook, where I really don't know who sees what, or through what path.
I write this as someone who likes, and uses, Facebook! But the worlds are different, the mores are different, and what can seem like casual information in one sphere can be pretty damaging, or at least a PITA to control.
I also worry about community posts. I'm driving the Stargate crack_van for September, and really don't want any followback to my LJ based on automatic posting of comments. And ditto for my media reference posts to fanthropology!!
